Evaluación, Manejo y Atención de la Fauna Silvestre Albergada en el Centro para la Conservación e Investigación de la Vida Silvestre (CIVS)

Abstract

El Centro para la Conservación e Investigación de la Vida Silvestre (CIVS) de Los Reyes es una institución fundamental para la protección y conservación de la fauna silvestre en el Estado de México. Su objetivo principal es recibir, conservar, proteger, recuperar y reintroducir ejemplares de vida silvestre, proporcionando un refugio seguro y un tratamiento adecuado para la fauna silvestre. La actividad en el CIVS se alinea con el plan de estudios de la Licenciatura en Biología de la UAM Xochimilco, ya que se busca que los estudiantes desarrollen habilidades para caracterizar y diagnosticar patrones biológicos y ecológicos, así como para evaluar estrategias de manejo de recursos naturales bióticos. Durante la estancia en el CIVS, se realizaron diversas actividades, como el mantenimiento de los ejemplares albergados, enriquecimiento ambiental, contención de fauna silvestre, manejo clínico y nutricional, según las necesidades de cada grupo taxonómico y manejo de medicina preventiva y salud pública colaborando con Médicos Veterinarios Zootecnistas. Estas actividades permitieron adquirir experiencia y conocimientos en el manejo y cuidado de una amplia variedad de especies. Se trabajó con un total de 480 ejemplares, incluyendo reptiles, mamíferos y aves. Se participó en 3 ponencias sobre manejo de ejemplares de distintos grupos taxonómicos, además, se participó en 4 canalizaciones, destacando la colaboración con diversas instituciones. Por otro lado, se realizaron 13 liberaciones de diferentes ejemplares en un Área de Protección de Recursos Naturales en el Lago de Texcoco y en el CIVS, lo que contribuyó a la conservación de la biodiversidad y el bienestar de las especies liberadas. En conclusión, la experiencia en el CIVS fue enriquecedora y permitió adquirir habilidades y conocimientos en el manejo y cuidado de la fauna silvestre. La colaboración con diferentes instituciones educativas y gubernamentales, así como la participación en ponencias y canalizaciones fueron fundamentales para el éxito de la experiencia.

The Center for Wildlife Conservation and Research (CIVS) Los Reyes is a fundamental institution for the protection and conservation of wildlife in the State of Mexico. Its main objective is to receive, conserve, protect, recover and reintroduce wildlife specimens, providing a safe haven and adequate treatment for wildlife. The activity at the CIVS is aligned with the curriculum of the Bachelors Degree in Biology at UAM Xochimilco, since it seeks that students develop skills to characterize and diagnose biological and ecological patterns, as well as to evaluate strategies for the management of biotic natural resources. During the stay at the CIVS, various activities were carried out, such as maintenance of the housed specimens, environmental enrichment, wildlife containment, clinical and nutritional management, according to the needs of each taxonomic group and management of preventive medicine and public health in collaboration with Veterinary Zootechnicians. On the other hand, 13 different specimens were released in a Natural Resources Protection Area in Lake Texcoco and in the CIVS, which contributed to the conservation of biodiversity and the wellbeing of the released species. In conclusion, the experience at CIVS was enriching and allowed us to acquire skills and knowledge in the management and care of wildlife. Collaboration with different educational and governmental institutions, as well as participation in presentations and channeling were fundamental to the success of the experience.
