Abstract: The inflammatory process is a fundamental immune system (IS) response to pathogens or tissue damage; this response involves the coordinated activation of immune cells and the release of mediators such as cytokines, which regulate cell maturation, growth, and responsiveness. These cytokines include interferon-gamma (IFN-γ), which has pro-inflammatory activity, and interleukin-10 (IL-10), which has anti-inflammatory activity and regulates the IS response. Studying these cytokines in wild species belonging to the Procyonidae family—such as the raccoon (*Procyon lotor*) and the white-nosed coati (*Nasua narica*)—is of interest due to their frequent interaction with urban areas and their potential role as pathogen vectors and reservoirs among wildlife, domestic animals, and humans. This research aims to characterize IFN-γ and IL-10 in wild procyonids. Studying cytokines—particularly IFN-γ and IL-10—in species such as the raccoon and the white-nosed coati is essential for understanding how they respond to infections and other immune challenges. Information regarding their immune systems remains limited; therefore, characterizing IFN-γ and IL-10 through *in silico* and *in vitro* approaches will not only allow for the identification of potential genetic and functional similarities between the two species but also lay the groundwork for future research into their immunocompetence.
