Bruxismo en pacientes con apnea obstructiva de sueño (aos) en el Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias

Abstract

This document was prepared to present the responsibilities and activities during the social service of Alexa Yakzal Zavala Roldan, which was carried out at the National Institute of Respiratory Diseases Ismael Cosío Villegas (INER) from February 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025, in the Maxillofacial Surgery and Stomatology area of ​​the aforementioned institute. This report contains the research report conducted during the social service stay at said institute, entitled “BRUXISM IN PATIENTS WITH OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA (OSA) AT THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF RESPIRATORY DISEASES.” In summary, it is a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, and retrospective scientific research study. For the time being, the study population consisted of a total of 7 patients. This was determined by including patients diagnosed with sleep bruxism and obstructive sleep apnea, and, as an essential criterion, by having access to the studies previously performed to determine both diagnoses: polysomnography and electromyography of the masseter muscle. The analysis of results determined that patients with obstructive sleep apnea had a higher prevalence of bruxism during sleep. A detailed report of the activities carried out during the year of social service is also attached. These activities are described in an orderly and chronological manner within a narrative numerical report, and are classified by their characteristics as: diagnostic, clinical, laboratory, research, administrative, social work, educational, and health promotion.

Este documento se elaboró con la finalidad de presentar las responsabilidades y actividades durante el servicio social de Alexa Yakzal Zavala Roldan el cual fue llevado a cabo en el Instituto Nacional de Enfermedades Respiratorias Ismael Cosío Villegas (INER), durante el periodo comprendido del día 01 de febrero de 2024 al 31 de enero de 2025 en el área de Cirugía Maxilofacial y Estomatología del instituto antes mencionado. Este informe contiene el reporte de investigación que se realizó durante la estancia de servicio social en dicho instituto, la cual lleva por título “BRUXISMO EN PACIENTES CON APNEA OBSTRUCTIVA DE SUEÑO (AOS) EN EL INSTITUTO NACIONAL DE ENFERMEDADES RESPIRATORIAS”. En resumen, se trata de un estudio de investigación científica de carácter descriptivo, observacional, transversal y retrospectivo. Por el momento, la población de estudio quedó conformada por un total de 7 pacientes, se determinó incluyendo a pacientes con diagnóstico de bruxismo de sueño y diagnóstico de apnea obstructiva de sueño y, como criterio indispensable, que se tuviera acceso a los estudios previamente realizados para determinar ambos diagnósticos: polisomnografía y electromiografía del músculo masetero. El análisis de resultados determina que los pacientes que presentan apnea obstructiva de sueño tienen mayor prevalencia de bruxismo durante el sueño. Asimismo, se adjunta un reporte detallado de las actividades realizadas durante el año de servicio social las cuales se describen en forma ordenada y cronológica dentro de un informe numérico narrativo, entre ellas, se clasifican por sus características en: diagnósticas, clínicas, de laboratorio, de investigación, administrativas, de labor social, de educación y de promoción a la salud.
