Bases genéticas, características clínicas y manejo odontológico en pacientes con síndrome de digeorge

Abstract

This report accounts for the activities carried out during the social service internship at the National Institute of Pediatrics (INP) within the pediatric dentistry department; located at Av. Insurgentes Sur, Insurgentes Cuicuilco, Coyoacán, Mexico City, conducted from February 1, 2025, to January 30, 2026. This report contains several chapters, one of which is dedicated to the research work entitled GENETIC BASES, CLINICAL CHARACTERISTICS, AND DENTAL MANAGEMENT IN PATIENTS WITH DI GEORGE SYNDROME; DiGeorge syndrome is a genetic disorder (22q11 deletion) characterized by the lack of formation of the thymus and parathyroid glands. Due to this genetic alteration, the patients clinical presentation is usually multi-organ, ranging from complex congenital heart defects and craniofacial anomalies to significant delays in neuromotor development and behavioral disorders. From a stomatological perspective, it is essential to highlight that these patients frequently present defects in the mineralization of dental enamel. Therefore, dental management should not be limited to treating existing lesions, but should be integrated into a multidisciplinary care model. Additionally, several sections are presented, such as: Description of the position, Narrative numerical report, and Conclusions, in which the activities carried out during my social service internship are described in detail.

El presente informe da cuenta de las actividades realizadas durante la estancia como pasante de servicio social en el Instituto Nacional de Pediatría (INP) dentro del servicio de estomatología pediátrica; ubicado en Av. Insurgentes Sur, Insurgentes Cuicuilco, Coyoacán, Ciudad de México, llevado a cabo del 1 de febrero del 2025 al 30 de enero del 2026. Este informe contiene diversos capítulos, uno de los cuales está dedicado al trabajo de investigación denominado BASES GENÉTICAS, CARACTERÍSTICAS CLÍNICAS Y MANEJO ODONTOLÓGICO EN PACIENTES CON SÍNDROME DE DIGEORGE; el síndrome de DiGeorge es un trastorno genético (deleción 22q11) caracterizado por la falta de formación del timo y las paratiroides. Debido a esta alteración genética, el cuadro clínico del paciente suele ser multiorgánico, abarcando desde cardiopatías congénitas complejas y anomalías craneofaciales hasta retrasos significativos en el desarrollo neuromotor y trastornos del comportamiento. Desde una perspectiva estomatológica, es fundamental destacar que estos pacientes presentan frecuentemente defectos en la mineralización del esmalte dental. Por lo tanto, el manejo odontológico no debe limitarse al tratamiento de lesiones existentes, sino que debe integrarse en un modelo de cuidado multidisciplinar. Asimismo se presentan diversos capítulos como: Descripción de la plaza, Informe numérico narrativo y conclusiones en los cuales se describen con detalle las actividades realizadas durante mi pasantía de servicio social.
