Descripción Morfométrica de Variedades Nativas de Jitomate (Solanum lycopersicum)

Abstract

The tomato is a plant with wide genetic variability that can be used to generate varieties adapted to different environmental conditions. Establishing the morphological differences of plants and fruits of native varieties will allow determining their agronomic and functional potential. This project aimed to monitor the height of the plant, the thickness of the stem, the architecture, the shape and color of the fruits of five native varieties of tomato. The native varieties showed differences in the height and thickness of the plants during the period of development evaluated, as well as in the characteristics of shape and color of the fruits. All the stages of development of the plant were considered to be able to carefully observe the differences presented by each variety, and in turn to be able to make a record to generate descriptive sheets of each tomato variety. Similarly, the information was collected to be able to have a history of native varieties within the Metropolitan Autonomous University and thus be able to follow the line of research. Seeds of native varieties were also recovered. These seeds are part of a base collection of seeds for the Bachelors Degree in Agronomy of the Metropolitan Autonomous University Xochimilco Unit.

El jitomate es una planta con amplia variabilidad genética que puede ser aprovechada para generar variedades adaptadas a diferentes condiciones ambientales. Establecer las diferencias morfológicas de las plantas y de los frutos de variedades nativas permitirá determinar el potencial agronómico y funcional de estas. Este proyecto tuvo como objetivo monitorear la altura de la planta, el grosor del tallo, la arquitectura, la forma y color de los frutos de cinco variedades nativas de jitomate. Las variedades nativas presentaron diferencia en la altura y grosor de las plantas durante el periodo de desarrollo evaluado, así como en las características de forma y color de los frutos. Se consideró todas las etapas de desarrollo de la planta para poder observar detenidamente las diferencias que presentan cada variedad, y a su vez poder realizar un registro para generar fichas descriptivas de cada variedad de jitomate. De igual manera se recolecto la información para poder tener un historial de variedades nativas dentro de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana y así poder seguir la línea de investigación. También se recuperó semillas de las variedades nativas. Estas semillas, forman parte de una colección base de semillas para la Licenciatura en Agronomía de la Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana Unidad Xochimilco.
