Conocimiento y manejo de l proceso curatorial de insectos en la colección Nacional de Insectos IBUNAM.

Abstract

The bugs are the most diverse and abundant organisms on the planet. Most of the living beings that are not microorganisms are bugs that can be found on most environments. This organisms are really important due to their impact on farming and the human health. This social service was done on the National Bug Collection (CNIN), which is part of the Institute of Biology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), lasting 6 months from the period of time since October 18th 2023 to April 18th 2024, The main goal of the activities was to add a variety of new organisms to the scientific collection, such as separation of entomological material that was collected, adding the material to the collection, the conditioning of the deposit of specimens, prevention of deterioration and restoration of the material already deposited in the collection. we learned about what they are, and how we can do the cure process for the land bugs, using this knowledge to a total of 785 specimens on the collection. We got knowledge about the overall operation of the scientific collection.

Los insectos son el grupo de organismos más abundante y diverso en el planeta. La mayoría de los seres vivos (exceptuando a los microorganismos) son insectos, y éstos se pueden encontrar casi en cualquier ambiente. Asimismo, estos organismos son de gran importancia, por su biodiversidad, la función que desempeñan en los ecosistemas, su influencia en la agricultura y en la salud humana, así como por su valor económico que pueden significar. El presente servicio social se llevó a cabo en la Colección Nacional de Insectos (CNIN), que tiene sede en el Instituto de Biología de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), con una duración de 6 meses que corresponden del 18 de octubre del año 2022 al 18 de abril del 2023. Se realizaron actividades relevantes para la correcta función e introducción de diversos organismos a una colección entomológica con valor científico; como son la separación del material entomológico recolectado en campo, la curación e incorporación del material a la Colección, el acondicionamiento del depósito de ejemplares, la prevención del deterioro y restauración del material ya depositado, Se aprendió lo qué es, en qué consiste y cómo se realiza el proceso curatorial para insectos terrestres, aplicando este conocimiento a un total de 785 ejemplares que fueron depositados en la colección seca. Se obtuvieron conocimientos sobre la organización y funcionamiento general de una colección biológica con valor científico.
