Crónicas Sonoras del Sur de la Ciudad de México: Un Ejercicio Artístico para su Escucha

Abstract

El proyecto tiene como objetivo principal analizar y comprender la construcción de la sonoridad y la experiencia de escucha en las alcaldías de Coyoacán, Tlalpan y Xochimilco, ubicadas en el sur de la Ciudad de México. Mediante este estudio, se busca explorar la interrelación entre el sonido y diversos aspectos como la sociedad, la historia y el territorio, con el propósito de profundizar en la comprensión de cómo se configuran los paisajes sonoros en estas zonas específicas. Con un enfoque interdisciplinario, se pretende brindar una visión integral de la importancia y el significado del sonido en la vida cotidiana de la ciudad. El estudio adopta un enfoque interdisciplinario, lo que implica utilizar el conocimiento y las metodologías de diversas disciplinas para abordar el tema. Esto puede involucrar la participación de expertos en áreas como acústica, antropología, sociología, historia y geografía. Al analizar la relación entre el sonido y aspectos sociales, históricos y territoriales, se pretende proporcionar una visión integral de la importancia y el significado del sonido en la ciudad. Esto incluye el estudio de la influencia de eventos históricos en la configuración de la sonoridad actual, la identificación de sonidos emblemáticos o simbólicos de estas alcaldías, y el análisis de cómo el entorno físico y social influye en la producción y percepción del sonido.

The main objective of the project is to analyze and understand the construction of sonority and the listening experience in the municipalities of Coyoacán, Tlalpan, and Xochimilco, located in the southern part of Mexico City. The aim is to obtain a comprehensive view of the meaning and importance of soundscapes, as well as to comprehend how sonority is shaped in these areas and the relevance of noise in this process. To support this information, an interdisciplinary approach has been considered, incorporating perspectives from various authors such as Murray Schafer, Ferdinand de Saussure, Ji-Fu Tuan, John Locke, Lev S. Vygotsky, Marshall McLuhan, and Pierre Schaeffer, who have made significant contributions in fields like linguistics, geography, philosophy, and psychology. The project takes place during the last four months of 2022 to capture the variability and dynamism of soundscapes in the mentioned municipalities. Measurements and recordings are conducted under different environmental conditions, considering factors such as time of day, weather, and cultural events that may influence the sonority of each place. Through this process, distinct sonic elements are identified in the selected municipalities, employing intervention supported by participant observation and focusing on socioculturally significant moments and locations. The objective is to describe the sonic impact generated in these localities and achieve a concrete understanding of the environment, delving into the comprehension of senses and their role as receptors in the human experience. As an integral part of the project, an artistic piece is created that combines sonic, visual, and tactile aspects. This piece is conceived as a tangible and creative manifestation of the appreciation for sonority present in the southern municipalities of Mexico City. Its purpose is to raise awareness and promote reflection on the importance of sonority in our lives. The active involvement of the audience is sought, inviting them to explore and experience the relationship between the sonic, visual, and tactile aspects of the artwork, and to reflect on their own connection with the sonic environment of the southern municipalities of Mexico City
