La salud mental “revisitada”

Abstract

From the second half of the twentieth century, there was a crisis in the field of Mental Health that led to a profound transformation around the world, and led to think differently the way people see and treat madness. In this article we insist on the importance of recovering a look where social and subjective condition of mental illnesses cannot be left of side –such as it has happened from the psychiatric-hegemonic approach, while actions at and with the community must be implemented for a better attention. So we insist on directing interventions, from the participation of broad sectors of society, towards addressing the needs and rights of people, rather than the treatment of a so-called “mental illness”.

A partir de la segunda mitad del siglo XX, tuvo lugar una crisis en el campo de la salud mental que dio lugar a una profunda transformación en diversos lugares del mundo, y condujo a pensar de forma distinta la manera de ver y de tratar a la locura. En este artículo insistimos en la importancia de recuperar una mirada donde la condición subjetiva y social de los padecimientos psíquicos no sea dejada de lado –tal como ha sucedido desde el enfoque psiquiátrico-hegemónico– y al mismo tiempo puedan implementarse acciones para su atención en y con la comunidad. Para ello insistimos en orientar las intervenciones, a partir de la participación de amplios sectores sociales, hacia la atención de las necesidades y los derechos de las personas, más que al tratamiento de una mal llamada “enfermedad mental”.
