La Teoría del Reconocimiento de Axel Honneth. Alcances, Límites y Perspectivas.

Abstract

El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar la teoría de Honneth y determinar sus alcances, límites explicativos y perspectivas, considerando para ello las tensiones generadas entre las esferas de reconocimiento y de libertad. El análisis se concentró en sus obras más importantes: La lucha por el reconocimiento y El derecho de la libertad. La primera de ellas se enfoca en la lucha por el reconocimiento. Honneth emplea esta categoría de análisis extraída de El sistema de la eticidad de Hegel para explicar que en la actualidad las luchas y movimientos sociales no se fundamentan necesariamente en cuestiones materiales sino en la búsqueda del reconocimiento. La segunda gran obra da un giro y, fundamentada con una revisión también del pensamiento hegeliano, pretende dar el paso a una teoría de la justicia, entendiendola como la manera en que las personas se tratan y reconocen. Su propuesta es que la libertad social implica ser libre con el otro. Este cambió en la perspectiva de Honneth, genera tensiones en las diferentes esferas que él emplea y que son analizadas para encontrar los límites explicativos de su teoría. Al final de esta investigación se concluye que no existe un rompimiento entre ambas obras sino que son complementarias y, que a pesar de las dificultades teóricas que Honneth enfrenta su propuesta, se vuelve indispensable en la actualidad, en tanto que nos ayuda a entender la incapacidad de las instituciones de reflejar las nuevas exigencias sociales bajo un nuevo horizonte de inteligibilidad y sentido.

This paper aims to analyze Honneths theory and determine its scope, explanatory limits and perspectives, considering the tensions generated between the spheres of recognition and freedom. The analysis focused on his most important works: The Struggle for Recognition and Freedoms Right. The first one focuses on the struggle for recognition. Honneth uses this category of analysis taken from Hegels System of Ethical life to explain that todays social struggles and movements are not necessarily based on material issues but on the search for recognition. The second great work takes a turn and, based on a review of Hegelian thought, intends to give way to a theory of justice, understanding it as the way in which people treat and recognize each other. His proposal is that social freedom implies being free with the other. This changed in Honneths perspective, generates tensions in the different spheres that he uses and that are analyzed to find the explanatory limits of his theory. At the end of this research it is concluded that there is no break between both works but that they are complementary and, despite the theoretical difficulties that Honneths proposal faces, it becomes indispensable nowadays, as it helps us to understand the inability of institutions to reflect the new social demands under a new horizon of intelligibility and meaning.
