Animalidad y conocimiento. La producción del otro en el quehacer científico.

Abstract

El objetivo general de este trabajo es analizar el modo en que se producen los animales en el contexto de la investigación científica dentro del campo biomédico. Considerando el modo en que se configuran determinadas formas de animalidad en ciertas condiciones sociales, tanto simbólicas como materiales. Para esta finalidad se realizó trabajo de campo en dos laboratorios, uno de farmacobiología ubicado en el CINVESTAV sede sur, y el otro de neurociencias en el Instituto de Fisiología Celular de la UNAM, ubicados ambos en la Ciudad de México. Se realizaron entrevistas y observación participante en ambos espacios para analizar las formas de interacción entre humanos y animales bajo el contexto de la experimentación. Se realizó un análisis de las condiciones de producción en los bioterios y en los laboratorios, antes, durante y después de la experimentación para conocer los procedimientos en los que se ven involucrados los animales y las formas de relación que se dan entre estos y los humanos, a la vez que se encuentran inmersos en una serie de relaciones semióticas y materiales. A partir de una perspectiva transdisciplinaria y apoyándose en nociones provenientes de la teoría posestructuralista, se fue pensando la problemática desde diferentes campos, como son los animal studies, la antropología del giro ontológico, así como las discusiones llevadas a cabo en el constructivismo y el neomaterialismo desde la sociología y la historia de la ciencia. Todo esto para arribar a una perspectiva teórica que permitiera pensar a los animales como parte constitutiva de la producción científica, entendiendo esta como una actividad social de interacciones múltiples. Con base en esto se realiza una reflexión crítica desde la psicología social para repensar la noción clásica de subjetividad para proponer nuevas formas de (re)conocimiento que involucren a los animales en estas áreas.

The general objective of this work is to analyze the way in which animals are produced in the context of scientific research within the biomedical field. Considering the way in which certain forms of animality are configured in certain social conditions, both symbolic and material. For this purpose, fieldwork was carried out in two laboratories, one of pharmacobiology located at CINVESTAV sede sur, and the other of neuroscience at Instituto de Fisiología Celular of UNAM, both located in Mexico City. Interviews and participant observation were conducted in both spaces to analyze the forms of interaction between humans and animals in the context of experimentation. An analysis of the production conditions in the vivarums and in the laboratories was carried out, before, during and after the experimentation to know the procedures in which the animals are involved and the forms of relationship that occur between them and humans, while they are immersed in a series of semiotic and material relationships. From a transdisciplinary perspective and relying on notions from poststructuralist theory, the problem was thought from different fields, such as animal studies, the anthropology of the ontological turn, as well as the discussions carried out in constructivism and neomaterialism from sociology and the history of science. All this to arrive at a theoretical perspective that would allow thinking of animals as a constituent part of scientific production, understanding this as a social activity of multiple interactions. Based on this, a critical reflection is carried out from social psychology to rethink the classical notion of subjectivity to propose new forms of knowledge that involve animals in these areas.
