Violencia mediática : Reflexiones en torno a las prácticas discursivas en el tratamiento periodístico del feminicidio

Abstract

En esta tesis analizo las prácticas discursivas violentas presentes en el tratamiento periodístico del feminicidio, para ello examino las noticias que seis diarios mexicanos publicaron a propósito de los casos de Lesvy Berlín Rivera Osorio y Mara Fernanda Castilla Miranda. Argumento que el feminicidio es la expresión más cruel de violencia contra las mujeres pero no es la última, pues los relatos que circulan en la prensa constituyen una forma de agresión posterior al asesinato; si bien en otras investigaciones estas prácticas se han señalado como revictimización, aquí se lleva a cabo un esfuerzo por conceptualizarlas como una forma específica de violencia que refuerza la letalidad del feminicidio por medio de diferentes discursos y representaciones construidas en torno a las víctimas de este delito, pero además se apela a señalar la responsabilidad directa que los medios de comunicación guardan al respecto. Así, trayendo al debate académico el concepto violencia mediática, los hallazgos de esta investigación permiten señalar que, en relación al feminicidio, ésta se ejerce cuando: a) se construyen noticias basadas en no-acontecimientos; b) se difunden datos falsos o irrelevantes para la comprensión del caso; c) se producen patriloquias; d) se emplean estrategias discursivas de desacreditación, moralización y culpabilización e) se usan imágenes explícitas del cuerpo asesinado para ilustrar las notas; y f) se recurre a un tratamiento dolorista.

In this thesis I analyze the violent discursive practices which are present in the journalistic treatment of femicide. In order to do this, I examine the news that six Mexican newspapers published in relation to the cases of Lesvy Berlin Rivera Osorio and Mara Fernanda Castilla Miranda. I argue that femicide is the cruelest expression of violence against women, but it is not the last one, because the stories circulating in the press constitute a new form of aggression which occurs after the murder. Although in other research works these practices have been identified as revictimization, my purpose here is to conceptualize them as a specific form of violence which reinforces the lethality of femicide through different discourses and representations which are fabricated around the victims of these crimes, but also pointing out the direct responsibility of the media in this regard. Thus, by bringing to the academic debate the concept of violence in the media, the findings of this research allow us to point out that, in relation to femicide, the violence of the media is exercised when: a) news are fabricated on the basis of “facts” that never happened; b) false or irrelevant data are being disseminated or used in order to understand the cases; c) patriloquias occur; d) discursive strategies which seeks the discrediting, moralization or blaming are used; e) explicit images of the murdered body are being used in order to illustrate the news; and f) a pain treatment is being used in the fabrication of the news.
