Caravanas migrantes :

Abstract

En octubre de 2018 ocurrió la primera caravana de migrantes centroamericanos con destino a Estados Unidos como consecuencia de diversas problemáticas sociales, políticas y económicas que los obligaron a abandonar sus países de origen, propiciando que esta modalidad de migración se replicará durante 2019 y 2020. El objetivo de este estudio es distinguir el proceso de las caravanas y las características que las consolidaron como un movimiento social, identificando las acciones y los medios a los que recurrieron a partir de una metodología cualitativa que consistió en etnografía digital y entrevistas con expertos. Los resultados de esta investigación cualitativa nos permitieron identificar la apertura de oportunidades políticas que dio lugar a la conformación de las caravanas, así como las formas de autoconvocatoria, los momentos de acción colectiva y los repertorios de protesta que construyeron durante su trayecto. Finalmente, distinguimos algunas dificultades que enfrentaron las caravanas tales como manifestaciones de racismo, xenofobia, estigmatización y discriminación, así como el congelamiento del movimiento debido a la pandemia de la COVID-19 ----- Abstract: In October of 2018 occurred the first central american migrant caravan as a consequence of diverse problematic situations within the political, economic and social environments inside their countries of birthplace. This migration method, which was also applied during 2019 and 2020, had the United States of America as country of destination. The objective within this investigation is to be capable of knowing the process of the caravans and also the features that allowed it to become a social movement, pointing out the actions and the means they applied, using a digital ethnography and doing interviews with experts in the matter. The results of this qualitative investigation let us identify the opening of political opportunities that gave place to the formation of these caravans, also the ways of selfsummon, the moments of collective action and the repertoires of protest that they made through their journey. Finally, we were able to distinguish some difficulties that these caravans faced throughout their mobility, like demonstrations of racism, xenophobia, stigmatization and discrimination, such as the interruption of the traveling due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
