In this paper we study the antecedents of the different interpretations that are taken by conception of the work in the economic theory, besides presenting what are the fundamentals that allow understanding the conception of the work in the theory current economic. It is intended to respond to the question of whether the conception of the work is to consider it as a social fact (in classical economic theory, in Marx, neoclassical theory and current economic theory), and if that conception allows to acquire and manifest a personality in workers in order for the worker as a human to find meaning in life. To give substance to the foregoing, it is simply resorted to what is understood by total social fact, by social relationship and by personality. The results of the research suggest different conceptions of the work according to the different ways of understanding the economic and social process, with which not in all the selected currents the work is a total social fact, mainly in the current neoclassical economic theory of Human Capital, to name a few.
