Temporomandibular disorders comprise a group of conditions affecting the stomatognathic system, leading to muscle pain, limited mouth opening, muscle fatigue, impaired mandibular function, and changes in occlusal stability. Among the most common causes are occlusal interferences and premature contact points, which disrupt the natural movement of the mandible and overload the masticatory muscles. Occlusal trauma involves the application of excessive forces to the teeth and their supporting tissues, potentially resulting in clinical manifestations that necessitate an evaluation of the patients bite. The Lucia jig is a device typically fabricated from self-curing acrylic. Its function is to create a minimal separation between the dental arches, which promotes muscle relaxation and a more stable mandibular closure; this facilitates an occlusal evaluation and the identification of potential occlusal interferences and premature contact points. The clinical case presented describes the use of a Lucia jig in a patient exhibiting clinical signs consistent with temporomandibular dysfunction associated with occlusal trauma. The patient presented to the emergency service at the San Lorenzo Atemoaya stomatological clinic; the use of the Lucia jig helped establish a favorable clinical condition.en
