Social service in the health field represents a crucial stage in the training of professionals committed to social well-being and the strengthening of the national health system. In the hospital setting, this activity not only allows for the application of theoretical knowledge acquired in university education, but also facilitates the acquisition of clinical, technical, and ethical skills essential for responsible and humanistic professional practice (PAHO, 2020). This social service experience was developed at the Mixing Center of the National Cancer Institute (INCan), a highly specialized institution and a national and international benchmark in cancer diagnosis, treatment, teaching, and research. Specifically, it focused on the preparation, packaging, and distribution of oncological and prophylactic parenteral mixtures, critical functions within the therapeutic process of patients with oncological diseases. The handling of oncology parenteral mixtures is one of the most sensitive and regulated areas within hospital pharmacy, due to the complexity of the drugs involved, their potential toxicity, and the need for highly controlled sterile conditions (INCan, 2021). Handling cytotoxic agents requires not only solid knowledge of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, but also technical skills in reconstitution processes, dose calculations, aseptic techniques, and national and international regulations on occupational safety and pharmacovigilance (USP, 2022). In this sense, the participation of social service providers in these tasks not only contributes to the efficient operation of hospital pharmaceutical services but also strengthens their professional training through direct immersion in a highly complex clinical environment. This project comprehensively addressed the life cycle of parenteral oncology and prophylactic mixtures, from medication storage to distribution and safe delivery to the corresponding clinical units. It also promoted strict adherence to the standards established by the Mexican Official Standard NOM-249-SSA1-2010, which regulates good manufacturing practices for medications, especially with regard to sterile preparations (Ministry of Health, 2015). The experience allowed the service provider not only to develop technical skills in hospital pharmacotechnology but also to foster a critical and ethical perspective regarding the pharmacists role in the comprehensive treatment of cancer patients, particularly with regard to patient safety, therapeutic efficacy, and minimizing risks associated with the use of antineoplastic medications.en
