El sufragio femenino y la Constitución de 1917. Una revisión

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to analyze the political views that shaped the debates about women’s right to vote during the first decades of the twentieth century in Mexico. Universal suffrage was finally approved in 1953. We examine the diverse and sometimes contradictory arguments both in favor and against women’s suffrage, that were sustained by the women who were protagonists in this struggle. This will provide us with insight into one aspect of the broader process of the construction of women’s citizenship.

Este trabajo tiene como objetivo analizar las diversas perspectivas políticas que enmarcaron los debates sobre el derecho al voto de las mexicanas durante el primer cuarto del siglo XX . Recordemos que el sufragio universal en el país fue aprobado hasta 1953. En este ensayo nos acercamos sólo a las primeras mujeres que sostuvieron argumentos distintos sobre el sufragio femenino; posturas a favor y en contra, e incluso divergentes y hasta similares sobre este proceso. A partir de este recorrido se observan los procesos de construcción de ciudadanía para las mujeres.
