Flujos comerciales y competitividad en la industria del calzado

Abstract

Este trabajo tiene por objeto mostrar la utilidad del ‘Índice de ventajas comparativas reveladas’ en la medición de la competitividad industrial; se utiliza como estudio de caso la industria del calzado en México en el período 1980-1996, lapso caracterizado por el tránsito del modelo proteccionista al de apertura comercial. El trabajo inicia con la presentación del índice y de la metodología utilizada para su construcción en la industria del calzado; enseguida se realizan los cálculos e interpretan los resultados. Finalmente éstos se relacionan con los saldos de la balanza comercial y los diferentes tipos de política cambiaria implementadas en el período estudiado; con ello se logra establecer algunas conclusiones sobre la competitividad de la industria del calzado y sus clases.

This work intends to show the utility of the ‘Index of revealed comparative advantages’ in the measurement of the industrial competitiveness; it is used as case of study the industry of footwear in Mexico in the period 1980-1996, lapse characterized by the transit of the protectionist model to the commercial opening one. The work initiates with the presentation of the index and the methodology used for its construction in the industry of footwear; immediately the calculations are made and the results interpretated. Finally these are related to the balances of the trade scale and the different implemented types of exchange policy in the studied period; with it, it establishes some conclusions on the competitiveness of the industry of footwear and its classes.
