Pobreza y estigma en una villa miseria argentina

Abstract

An answer is sought to how the terms of the poverty/stigma equation come together in connection with the effects that the perception by “others” has on the everyday lives of the inhabitants of the Argentine villa miseria of Villa Corina during the 1990s. The city is conceived as a fabric of spaces, relations, and imaginaria, and so studying it requires taking into account the social meaning of neighborhoods, the relations between status and prestige, and the place where one lives. The villa miseria is a phenomenon of urban living, and so its perceptions are also covered by this paper.

Se busca responder al interrogante de cómo se conjugan los términos de la ecuación pobreza/estigma en relación con los efectos que la mirada del “otro” produce en la vida cotidiana de los habitantes de una villa miseria argentina: Villa Corina, durante la década de los noventa del siglo pasado. La ciudad se concibe como un entramado de espacios, relaciones e imaginarios, por lo que estudiarla requiere tener en cuenta el significado social de los barrios, las relaciones entre status y prestigio, y el lugar donde se vive. La villa miseria es un fenómeno habitacional urbano, por lo que sus valoraciones son también motivo de este trabajo.
