Los sistemas just-in-time/Kanban, un paradigma productivo

Abstract

Just-in-Time and Kanban systems arose during the reconstruction of the Japanese economy in the middle years of the 20th century. The automobile corporations (Toyota in particular) succeeded in critically analyzing the weaknesses and strengths of Fordism and, following those lines, found alternative routes that proved how important they were when, during their elevation to the international stage, they provided answers to certain systemic problems of capitalism. Their impact on productive structures has been enormous: they have encouraged other forms of industrial integration (lean production, modular production) and they have radically changed the cultures of management and labor with respect to concepts such as productivity and quality. This paper provides an overview of these systems’ development, their transfer to the international stage, and their recent repercussions on transformations within the automobile industry.

Los sistemas just-in-time/Kanban surgen en el contexto de la reconstrucción de la economía japonesa hacia mediados del siglo XX. Fueron las empresas automotrices (especialmente Toyota) las que lograron hacer un análisis crítico de las debilidades y fortalezas del sistema fordista, y en ese camino encontraron rutas alternativas que mostraron su importancia cuando en el proceso de su internacionalización dieron respuesta a problemas sistémicos del capitalismo. Su impacto en las estructuras productivas ha sido enorme. Por una parte, han impulsado nuevas formas de ntegración industrial (lean production, modular production) y, por la otra, han cambiado radicalmente la cultura empresarial y laboral frente a conceptos como productividad y calidad. En este trabajo se hace un reconocimiento del desarrollo de los sistemas, sus procesos de internacionalización y los impactos recientes en las transformaciones de la industria del automóvil.
