El sueño de Isaac Asimov o ¿son matematizables las ciencias de lo humano?

Abstract

From a series of utopian novéis by Isaac Asimov, discussion arises regarding the possibilities of mathematically representing social reality. First, one must consider the question of what is mathematics, and what does it mean to "mathematize?" There stems from criticism of the reductionist mechanism, a supremacist focus in the scientific fhought until our days, that might have provoked several failed attempts of applying mathematics to the social sciences and, finally, diverse advances are presented in mafhematizing language, cultural anthropology and history.

A partir de una serie de novelas utópicas de Isaac Asimov, se discuten las posibilidades de repre¬sentar matemáticamente la realidad social. Se aborda, primero, la cuestión de qué es la matemática y qué significa matematizar. Se parte de la crítica al mecanicismo reduccionista, enfoque hegemónico en el pensamiento científico hasta nuestros días, que habría provocado varios intentos fallidos de uso de la matemática en las ciencias sociales y, finalmente, se presentan diversos avances de matematización en lin¬güística, antropología cultural e historia
