Mantenimiento y Producción de dos Crustáceos (Daphnia sp y Artemia franciscana) en el Laboratorio de Alimento Vivo de la UAM-Xochimilco

Abstract

This social service project, consisted of the maintenance and production of cultures of two crustaceans, being Artemia franciscana and Daphnia sp, carried out in the laboratory of Alimento Vivo of the UAM-Xochimilco, due to issues of culture management, the work had to be done in different phases, depending on the behavior of the culture of the organisms separately, First, an Artemia culture and a Daphnia culture were performed, then each culture was divided into three different water drums with a volume of 118 L, three of salt water for the Artemia and three of fresh water for the Daphnia, the number of individuals was observed and noted, this process was carried out through 3 samplings of 1 L every third day, to later extrapolate to the total volume of water. After the student stoppage, a second culture and phase of the project had to be carried out, due to the total failure of the previous cultures, first it was carried out with the Artemias, this time with 6 drums, each one would be fed with a different carbon source and it would be observed which of the populations turned out to be more prosperous by means of its carbon source. After finishing with the Artemias, we tried to do the culture and sampling with Daphnia, and proceeded to make sample separations to avoid the presence of carnivorous copepods, but after three weeks, the presence of these organisms appeared again, they ate the Daphnia and could not be carried out. Finally, after having done all the sampling, notes and calculations, a database was made in Excel, recording each of the phases and sampling of the project, and based on the data recorded, graphs were made to see the growth curves of each population of Artemia and Daphnia to finally give the results and conclusions.

Este proyecto de servicio social, consistió en el mantenimiento y la producción de cultivos de dos crustáceos, siendo Artemia franciscana y Daphnia sp, realizado en el laboratorio de Alimento Vivo de la UAM-Xochimilco, por cuestiones del manejo de los cultivos, el trabajo se tuvo que realizar en fases distintas, dependiendo del comportamiento del cultivo de los organismos por separado, se realizaron primero un cultivo de Artemia y uno de Daphnia, posteriormente se dividió cada cultivo en tres tambos de agua distintos con volumen de 118 L, tres de agua salada para la Artemia y tres de agua dulce para la Daphnia, se les observó y apuntó su número de individuos, este proceso se realizó mediante 3 muestreos de 1 L cada tercer día, para posteriormente hacer extrapolación al volumen total de agua. Tras el paro estudiantil, se tuvo que realizar un segundo cultivo y fase del proyecto, debido a la caída total de los cultivos anteriores, primero se realizó con las Artemias, esta vez con 6 tambos, cada uno sería alimentado con una fuente de carbono diferente y se observaría cuál de las poblaciones resultaba ser más próspera mediante su fuente de carbono. Al finalizar con las Artemias, se intentó hacer el cultivo y muestreo con Daphnia, y se procedió a hacer separaciones de muestras para evitar la presencia de copépodos carnívoros, pero a las tres semanas, se presentó de nuevo la presencia de estos organismos, se comieron la Daphnia y no se pudo llevar a cabo. Finalmente, tras haber realizado todas los muestreos, anotaciones y cálculos, se realizó una base de datos en Excel, registrando cada una de las fases y muestreos del proyecto, y con base a los datos registrados, se hicieron gráficas para ver las curvas de crecimiento de cada población de Artemia y Daphnia para finalmente dar los resultados y conclusiones
