Experiencia y significación de la vejez en comunidades zapotecas

Abstract

This paper is the product of an extensive journey through the Zapotec communities of El Rincón in Sierra Juárez de Oaxaca, accompanying the wind band Morelos of Santiago Yagallo. The members and their director allowed me to be by their side for several years when they visited neighboring communities during their patron saint festivities. The approach with them was vital, since they enjoy great prestige and respect among the authorities and citizens of the surrounding towns, this allowed an exchange of knowledge and views when talking to them and not about them, following the logic of oral history, where the interview as a conversation gained importance. The musicians sheltered me to be able to talk with the citizens, gathering a series of narrations about the experience of the elderly in community life, the place in which they are placed by it, their role in the construction and reinforcement of the bonds with the new generations and, of course, the place of memory in the resignification of the elements that make up the identity mosaic

El presente artículo es producto de un extenso recorrido por las comunidades zapotecas de El Rincón en la Sierra Juárez de Oaxaca, al acompañar a la banda de viento Morelos, de Santiago Yagallo. Los integrantes y su director me permitieron estar a su lado durante varios años cuando visitaban comunidades vecinas durante sus fiestas patronales. El acercamiento con ellos fue vital, ya que gozan de gran prestigio y respeto entre las autoridades y los ciudadanos de los pueblos aledaños, esto permitió un intercambio de saberes y miradas al hablar con ellos y no de ellos, siguiendo la lógica de la historia oral, donde la entrevista a manera de conversaciones cobró importancia. Los músicos me arroparon para lograr conversar con los ciudadanos, y así recoger una serie de narraciones en torno a la experiencia de los mayores en la vida comunitaria, el lugar en que son colocados por ésta, su papel en la construcción y el reforzamiento de los vínculos con las nuevas generaciones y, por supuesto, el lugar de la memoria en la resignificación de los elementos que componen el mosaico identitario.
