Máquinas deseantes en el desierto de lo real

Abstract

El presente trabajo aborda ciertos fenómenos de intertextualidad donde los límites entre la teoría y la ficción se debilitan, se dispersan y, por momentos, se tornan indiscernibles. En ese sentido, un recorrido por los tropos del cyberpunk —a partir del análisis del concepto de simulación en The Matrix de los hermanos Wachowski, de la figuración de lo biomecánico en la práctica artística de H.R. Giger y de la noción de nueva carne en el universo fílmico de David Cronenberg— puede resultar bastante ilustrativo de algunas de las obsesiones más profundas en torno a la metamorfosis del cuerpo, plasmadas en la teoría, la cultura de masas y el arte contemporáneo.

Desiring machines in the desert of the real. Intertextuality and cyberpunk culture. The present work deals with certain phenomena of intertextuality where the boundaries between theory and fiction weaken, disperse, and at times, become indiscernible. In this sense, a journey through the tropes of cyberpunk —starting with the analysis of the concept of simulation in the Wachowski brothers’ film The Matrix, the figuration of the biomechanical in the artistic practice of H.R. Giger, and the notion of new flesh in the filmic universe of David Cronenberg— proves most illustrative of some of the deepest obsessions with respect to the metamorphosis of the body, materialized in contemporary theory, mass culture and art.
