Diálogo entre realidad, ética y estética en el documental

Abstract

This article proposes an analysis of the bases ––linguistic, technological, cultural, and ideological–– which allow us to delimit the frontiers of the documentary film with relation to other audiovisual manifestations; it also recognizes those elements which relate the documentary to fictional accounts. In addition, we show how a well done documentary film entails, on the one hand, a creative treatment of reality and, on the other, an ethical commitment. The final part of this paper is dedicated to the analysis ––based on the notion of montage as asserting a “point of view”–– of the documentary No les pedimos un viaje a la luna (We didn’t ask them for a trip to the moon, Mexico, 1986), directed by Maricarmen de Lara, in order to illustrate the dialogue between reality, ethics and aesthetics on which the film is based.

El artículo plantea el análisis de las bases ––lingüísticas, tecnológicas, culturales e ideológicas–– que permiten acortar las fronteras del documental en relación con otras manifestaciones audiovisuales; pero también da cuenta de los vasos comunicantes que lo relacionan sobre todo con la ficción. Asimismo, se demuestra de qué manera el buen documental entraña, por un lado, un tratamiento creativo de la realidad y, por otro, un compromiso ético. La parte final está dedicada al análisis —a partir del montaje entendido como ‘demostración’ del punto de vista—, del documental No les pedimos un viaje a la luna (México, 1986) de Maricarmen de Lara, para hacer visible el diálogo entre realidad, ética y estética que lo sustenta.
