Culturas de tradición oral y poderes de lo escrito

Abstract

En este artículo la autora analiza las diferentes estrategias que han desarrollado los nuevos escritores indígenas en América con el fin de estimular la tradición oral a través de la escritura y obtener mayor legitimidad y poder en el contexto de los nuevos procesos culturales. Estas estrategias intentan no solamente rescatar una sabiduría en vías de extinción, sino de producir nuevos canales de comunicación y convivencia. El fin no es crear catálogos de información para ser archivados, sino emitir más para hacerse escuchar mejor. Novelas de escritores indígenas como la de P. Chamoiseau o las de S. Momaday son analizadas a partir de sus técnicas de escritura que remiten a los rituales tradicionales, así como a las múltiples lenguas y voces que coexisten en sus comunidades de origen.

In this paper the author explains why writing has been chosen by the young indigenous writers in America, as a strategy to stimulate oral traditions and to gain legitimacy and power according to new cultural processes. They pretend to create some new channels of communication, some new ways of sharing the community life and not just to save the ancient wisdom that is disappearing. Accumulating ethnographic data and files is not the goal; writing is necessary to be better listened. The indigenous novels (those of P. Chamoiseau or S. Momaday for example) are analyzed through their writing forms and structures, which are related t ~ t h e t r ~ t i o n a l rituals and characteristics of the numerous languages and voices one can listen nowadays in their communities.
