Abstract

This text is a critica1 reflection on the object of ethnography traditionally defined as the study of cultural singularity of the "other". It discusses the theoretical and methodological implications of the discursive character and the reflexivity of ethnographic word. The author shows that current anthropology is characterized by the paradoxical tension between the notions of subjectivity-objectivity, locality-globality, immanence transcendence, singularity- universality and criticizes marxisms universalism and totalizing temptation as a relativist and "democratic" position of "postmodern" US anthropology as well as the theoretical and political implications of both perspectives.

En este texto el autor reflexiona críticamente sobre el objeto de estudio de la etnografía definido tradicionalmente como el estudio de la singularidad cultural del otro. Discute asimismo las implicaciones teórico-metodológicas del carácter discursivo y la reflexividad del trabajo etnográfico. El autor nos muestra que la discusión que atraviesa a la antropología actual esta marcada por la tensión paradójica entre las nociones de subjetividad-objetividad, localidad-globalidad, inmanencia -trascendencia, singularidad-universalidad y critica tanto la tentación marxista universalista y totalizante como la posición relativista y pretensiosamente "democráticas" de la antropología "pos-moderna" norteamericana así como las implicaciones teórico políticas de ambas perspectivas.
