Abstract

In this work the author carries on a socio cultural analysis of the novel "Gecirge Washington Gomez" by Americo Paredes which he regards both as a sign of the state of Chicano literature at the end of the XXth century and as an expression of the artistic and political life of the complex and contradictory contemporary Latino identity in the United States. The text analyses the class, race and gender contradictions present in the process of construction of the Chicano identity and which are introduced by the novel. Furthermore, it discusses the critical and struggle potentials of the Chicano cultural and political movement in which the novel is inscribed.

En este trabajo el autor lleva a cabo un análisis sociocultural de la novela George Washington Gomez de Américo Paredes la cual considera tanto como un signo del estado de la literatura chicana de finales del siglo xx, así como una expresión de la vida artística y política de la compleja y contradictoria identidad latina en los Estados Unidos. Este texto analiza las contradicciones de clase, raza y género presentes en el proceso de construcción de la identidad chicana que se presenta en la novela. Además, discute las potencialidades críticas y de lucha del movimiento cultural y político chicano en el que la novela esta inscrita.
