El conflicto conceptual entre cultura, civilización y Estado

Abstract

The conflict between the concepts of culture and civilization was a problem for Kant’s categorical morality, for Nietzsche, a matter of ethics than is desirable, and for Freud’s Civilization and Its Discontents, that conflict never existed: culture and civilization are two terms that mean the same thing. But it was always this way? The terms themselves have distinct socio-linguistic origins. Not only that, the words belong to different cultures: the same were produced under historical and territorial circumstances mean seeking their own experiences and irreducible. What has that to do with the question of the state? For the authors review, culture and civilization always maintain a certain link with the practices of the state, may be a positive link, culturally speaking, or not.

El conflicto entre los conceptos de cultura y civilización fue para Kant un problema categórico-moral; para Nietzsche, una cuestión de ética de lo deseable, y para el Freud del Malestar en la cultura, tal conflicto nunca existió: cultura y civilización son dos términos que le significan la misma cosa. Pero ¿siempre fue de este modo? Los términos propiamente dichos poseen orígenes sociolingüísticos diferenciados, y no sólo eso, también pertenecen a culturas diferentes: fueron producidos bajo circunstancias históricas y territoriales que buscaban significar experiencias propias e irreducibles. ¿Qué tiene que ver eso con la cuestión del Estado? Para los autores que revisaremos, la cultura y la civilización mantienen siempre un determinado vínculo con las prácticas de lo estatal, pudiendo ser, culturalmente hablando, un vínculo positivo o no.
