Abstract

The current situation of mental illnesses is analyzed and described in this article, identifying the permanence of groups of disorders throughout the times. New entities or illnesses are identified, which are linked to social conditions of vulnerability and that appear in nonmedical or non-psychiatric settings. Warning is given against the risk of medicalizing problems that to social processes of exclusion that generate risk situations.

Este artículo describe y analiza la situación actual de los enfermos mentales, identificando la permanencia de ciertos tipos de desórdenes a través del tiempo. Nuevas entidades de enfermedades son identificadas, las cuales están ligadas a las condiciones sociales de vulnerabilidad y escapan al discurso médico y psiquiátrico. El trabajo advierte contra el riesgo de "medicamentar" los problemas que responden a los procesos sociales de exclusión, los cuales generan situaciones de riesgo.
