La historiografía medica en México. El primer gran encuentro con su historia en el siglo XIX

Abstract

El presente artículo refiere la literatura médica en sus más variadas formas de expresión y diversidad temática. Sin embargo, pone en relieve su expresión tan especializada y su poca divulgación, así como el lapso tan dilatado que hubo antes de aparecer una obra en la cual se pudieran identificar los galenos mexicanos. A fines del siglo XIX Francisco Flores y Troncoso escribió un texto monumental, con proporciones que lo rebasaron y por tal motivo incurrió en errores. Pese a que fue la simiente de nuevos y mejores libros en su género, dado el poco reconocimiento que tuvo su texto fue recurrentemente utilizado sin darle crédito alguno y repitiendo sus errores. Hoy se le reconoce como un libro capital en la historia de la medicina mexicana.

This article relates the medical literature in its most varied forms of expression and thematic diversity. However, highlights its expression so specialized and lack of disclosure, as well as the period so dilated that was before appeared an exemplar where Mexican doctors could identify themselves. At the end of XIX century Francisco Flores y Troncoso wrote a monumental book, with proportions that exceeded him, therefore he committed errors. Despite that, it was the seed of new and better books of its kind, no matter the little recognition the text was frequently used without giving him any credit but also repeating his mistakes. Today it is recognized as a major work in the history of Mexican medicine.
