Conyugalidad, migración internacional y salud femenina

Abstract

In this paper I deal with the effect that has international emigration on conjugality in women among residents of the South part of Veracruz. The experience of this situation is divided in three stages: a) point of departure to North America by men, b) living stage in that country, and, c) return to the homeland. An amalgam of feelings, thoughts and imaginaries become part of everyday living of women, which affects their physical and emotional health. This situation seems not to be taken in consideration, as if the only ones who seem important in the migratory process were the ones who went afar. This perspective through gender permits us to make evident such roles that women take in the migratory enterprise that involves as much men and women.

En este trabajo abordo lo que significa para algunas mujeres del sur de Veracruz vivir la experiencia de conyugalidad con migrantes internacionales. Tal experiencia se divide en tres etapas: a) la partida de los varones a Estados Unidos, b) su permanencia en aquel país y c) el retorno a su lugar de origen. En las tres etapas un cúmulo de sentimientos, pensamientos e imaginarios se vuelven parte de la cotidianeidad de las mujeres, lo cual afecta su salud física y emocional. Esta situación parece no tomarse en cuenta, como si sólo los protagonistas de la migración, los varones, importaran en este proceso. Una mirada desde el género nos permite hacer evidentes los papeles que cumplen estas mujeres en una empresa que involucra tanto a hombres como a mujeres.
