" Todavía puedo, soy productivo". Identidad, trabajo y salud

Abstract

The main question expounded in the work titled “I still can, I am productive”: identity, work and health was: How did three workers experience the mass firing by an important pharmaceutical corporation, whose seniorities varied between twenty four and twenty eight years, and how did these events impact on their lives and their health-illness process? The use of Oral History methodology in this research allowed the approach and the recording of information about the workers experiences. The interviews were done at two different times: almost immediately after the dismissal, and one year after our first encounter with the workers. This time interval was enlightening since it made it possible to observe how these workers dealt with the firing in the two different periods and the way in which their loss of employment affected their everyday lives and health.

La principal pregunta planteada en el trabajo denominado “Todavía puedo, soy productivo”: identidad, trabajo y salud fue: ¿Cómo vivieron tres trabajadores la experiencia de un despido en masa en una importante industria farmacéutica tras trayectorias laborales cuyas antigüedades variaban entre veinticuatro y veintiocho años y de qué manera este evento repercutió en sus vidas y en su proceso de salud-enfermedad? La utilización de la metodología de la Historia Oral en esta investigación posibilitó el acercamiento y registro de las experiencias de estos obreros. Las entrevistas fueron realizadas en dos momentos distintos: casi inmediatamente al despido y posteriormente, cuando ya había transcurrido poco más de un año de nuestro primer encuentro con los entrevistados. Este intervalo de tiempo fue enriquecedor una vez que permitió conocer cómo estos trabajadores lidiaron con el despido en diferentes periodos y la forma en la cual tal hecho afectó tanto sus cotidianeidades como su salud.
