Abstract: | Objective get to know the performance and basics on the male condom as a barrier method to avoid ITS. Methods and material: descriptive, comparative, observational and transverse investigation. Self- survey applied by 152 medical doctors’ students at the UAM/X, using the Likert scale. Results: average age of 21 years old. 53.9% women and 46.1% men of sample, 92.1% single in both categories. Findings were as follows: 57.2% of the students has “totally agreed” that condom helps prevent ITS. 96.1% has “totally agreed” in using a new condom in every sexual intercourse, 83.6% have “disagreed” in not checking the expiration date of the condom, 96.1% “disagree” in not using a condom when the sex partner looks physically healthy. Both men and women showed a positive attitude towards condom; men even showed positive on the fact that women asked them to use condoms. However, there are still some students that have misunderstood facts about condoms that are why it’s necessary to provide information to them Objetivo: Conocer el nivel de conocimiento y creencias del condón masculino como método de barrera para evitar las infecciones de transmisión sexual. Material y métodos: Investigación transversal, observacional, descriptivo y comparativo, aplicada a 152 alumnos de la licenciatura en medicina de la UAM/X con una encuesta auto-aplicada utilizando escala de Likert. Resultados: edad media de 21 años; 53.9% mujeres y 46.1% hombres y 92.1% solteros. Se encontró que 57.2% está “totalmente de acuerdo” con que el condón previene las ITS, y 96.1% lo están en utilizar un condón nuevo en cada relación, 83.6% están en “desacuerdo” en no revisar la fecha de caducidad y 96.1% están en “desacuerdo” en no usar condón cuando la pareja se vea físicamente sana. Tantos hombres como mujeres demostraron una actitud positiva ante el uso del condón; los hombres mostraron una actitud positiva ante el hecho de que sus compañeras les pidan utilizarlo. Sin embargo, una parte de los alumnos todavía tiene conocimientos erróneos por lo que es necesario proveer de más información a los jóvenes |
