Terapias preventivas populares entre sectores medios y urbano marginales de México

Abstract

Using data from the 1994 National Health Survey a qualitative study on the sociocultural determinants that affect the utilization of health services by low and middle income sectors was carried out. The cities of Aguascalientes, Morelia, Chihuahua, Saltillo, Merida, Veracruz, Chilpancingo and Pachuca were included in the research. One hundred and ninety two interviews were given to the population using the services and eight focal groups were organized in four cities with the same population. Sixty one interviews were carried out with Health Ministry and Social Security personned as well as with those of the private health sector. In this paper the preventive behavior of the interviewed population is analyzed. A differentiation between being ill and feeling sick is made since it relates to two diverse preventive practices: Diffused preventive therapy and occidental preventive therapy

En el marco de la segunda Encuesta Nacional de Salud (ENSA-11, 1994) se realizó un estudio cualitativo sobre las modalidades y los determinantes socioculturales que intervienen en la utilización de los servicios en las ciudades de Aguascalientes, Morelia, Chihuahua, Saltillo, Mérida, Veracruz, Chilpancingo y Pachuca, entre sectores medios y bajos. Se aplicaron 192 entrevistas a la población usuaria de los servicios y se organizaron ocho grupos focales con usuarios de los servicios de salud en cuatro ciudades. Así- mismo, se realizaron 61 entrevistas a prestadores de servicios de salud de la Secretaria de Salud, de los servicios de seguridad social y de la medicina privada. En este articulo se analiza la conducta preventiva de la población entrevistada, concluyendo que existe diferencia entre estar enfermo y caer enfermo, de donde se derivan dos practicas preventivas disímiles: terapia preventiva difusa y la terapia preventiva de tipo occidental
