Diversificación productiva y migración jornalera en México

Abstract

En este trabajo se analizan las principales modificaciones de la estructura productiva de cultivos hortofrutícolas en México, para identificar sus impactos en los jornaleros agrícolas. Hacemos uso de un método cuantitativo. Al realizar el análisis de la estructura de cultivos se identifica un crecimiento de la superficie de hortalizas, acompañada de la diversificación de cultivos, un desplazamiento de cultivos industriales y básicos, y un crecimiento importante de frutales. Se aprecia un incremento de la temporada de empleo en regiones hortaliceras, lo que favorece el asentamiento de jornaleros agrícolas. Se advierte que, como parte de la estrategia de los productores, se opera también una diversificación en las regiones de aprovisionamiento de jornaleros y esto tiene efectos en un incremento de la desocupación.

This paper analyzes the main changes in the productive structure of fruit and vegetable crops in Mexico, to identify their impacts on agricultural farm worker. We make use of a quantitative method. The analysis of crop structure identifies a growth in the area of vegetables, accompanied by crop diversification, displacement of industrial and basic crops, and significant growth of fruit trees. There is an increase in the employment season in horticultural regions, which favors the settlement of agricultural farm worker. It is noted that as part of the producers’ strategy, diversification is also being operated in the laborers supply regions and this has an effect on an increase in unemployment.
