La construcción de categorías para la protección del patrimonio urbano arquitectónico del siglo XX

Abstract

We don’t want to loose the testimonials of our past, including those related to recent periods such as the XXth century. But compared with more ancient monuments, this last category is less protected, mostly by the lack of a consensus related with its true values. The article analyzes the categories of the historical and artistic nature offered by the national legislation related with the preservation in Mexico, and shows its limitations, as well as the higher or lesser emphasis put to protect the monument depending if it comes from wide historical eras such as the Colonial Period or if it is only an architectural example whose value depends from its right insertion in an environment and context more or less homogeneous, but recent. In this context, the task of identifying and inventorying the urban and architectural heritage becomes essential, opening possibilities to rescue integrally and in time valuable sectors of our cities.

No queremos seguir perdiendo los testimonios de nuestro pasado, incluido el de épocas recientes como el siglo XX. Pero esta última categoría, a diferencia de lo que ocurre con monumentos de épocas anteriores está comparativamente más desprotegida, sobre todo porque faltan muchos consensos sobre su valoración. El artículo analiza las distintas categorías de lo histórico o lo artístico que ofrecen las leyes y reglamentos que se ocupan de la conservación en México y muestra sus limitaciones, así como el mayor o menor rigor con que se protege al monumento según si pertenece a los tiempos prolongados de la historia como el periodo Virreinal o se trata solamente de ejemplos de arquitectura cuyo valor depende de su inserción en un ambiente o contexto más o menos homogéneo, pero reciente. En ese contexto, la tarea de identificar, inventariar y catalogar el patrimonio urbano-arquitectónico se vuelve esencial, lo que abre la posibilidad de rescatar a tiempo, integralmente, sectores valiosos de nuestras ciudades.
