Abstract

The spatial structures that emerged at the beginning of the XX century designed by Alexander Calder, were then perfected by Kenneth Snelson and Buckminster Fuller, who named them tensegrity, which is the name this type of structures are currently known by. They are non conventional structures, formed by bars and cables that work through tension and compression, creating self-balance systems, they are self-supporting and self-forming. Their mathematical properties are still unsolved. The similarity between these structures and cells, studied from the point of view of biophysics, a field and Ingber is analyzing, has been little explored.

Las estructuras espaciales aparecieron a principios del siglo XX diseñados por Alexander Calder, luego fueron perfeccionadas por Kenneth Snelson y Buckminster Fuller, quien le dio el nombre de tensegrity, nombre con el cual se reconocen actualmente a este tipo de estructuras.
