Abstract

The renaissance of republicanism in contemporary political theory has rekindled interest in the studies about historical genealogy of this singular tradition of political thinking. This text offers an approach to the generic and specific definitions of republic and an approach to the historical journey of the concepts of republicanism and republic. This text is a key to distinguish between the radical-democratic republicanism and the liberal-democratic republicanism as well as to analyze the associated effects of the performance of this classification.

El renacimiento del republicanismo en la teoría política contemporánea ha vuelto a poner en el centro los estudios sobre la genealogía histórica de esta singular tradición de pensamiento político. Este trabajo ofrece un acercamiento a las definiciones genéricas y específicas de la noción de república y una aproximación a los itinerarios de vuelo de los conceptos de republicanismo y república. Todo ello con el propósito de ofrecer una clave de lectura para diferenciar al republicanismo democrático-radical del republicanismo liberal-democrático y, al mismo tiempo, analizar las consecuencias asociadas a la puesta en práctica de esa operación clasificatoria.
